Real Life Heroes
December 5, 2008
Real heroes are found not in comic books but in real life. They are those willing to give up their lives for the welfare of others. In a population of six billion people, living in the only planet known to harbor life in the solar system, only a few have hearts of gold and only a few have hearts for others. Heroes are most often challenged by trials, and their strength comes out on the way they respond to adversities.
For some, heroes only exist in comic books such as Batman, Superman and Flash to name a few. These imaginary heroes respond to people in distress. They come just in time to beat the villain, lock them up behind bars and viola, the day is saved.
However, in reality when you call for help, you may feel that no one seems to respond. There’s no Batman, no Superman nor a Flash to save you. But there are people who will arrive, and some of them are willing to risk their lives to save you.
Nowadays, they are called the new breed of heroes. They are the policemen who protect you and your rights, the firemen who would go through the depths of a burning house just to save you, those rescuers who would do the impossible in order to preserve your life, and fathers and mothers who sacrifice a lot to give you a better life. These heroes are alive and some of them are represented by rescue flags.
When I was still in the voluntary service, I was always amazed with people who respond to danger without hesitation. They boldly face death and despite the uncertainty, they go on with their job.
I always felt proud every time those courageous people would come out alive after a mission, and sure enough I always feel proud to have held that rescue flag that resembled salvation for people in distress.
Heroes are real. They don’t have super powers but they have hearts as big as the universe can be.

Very nicely put! I am fortunate to have been many times in the presence of heroes. People who, everyday, get up and play out an ordinary morning routine as they prepare for extraordinary work. People who contribute value to humanity and who care about others. Thank you for celebrating living heroes who walk among us everyday!
