On To The Next Hole!
October 28, 2009
Golfers and golf enthusiasts alike are starting to seek more and more collectible items from the courses they visit. They collect anything they could get their hands on like golf balls, tees, and even score cards. These days, they even started collecting golf flags. These collectors often keep these as trophies or as memories of their experience visiting other golf courses.
These flags were originally intended to point the way to the next hole and to separate one fairway from another. They usually fly the colors of the golf course that uses it. Their use, however, is not as simple as that anymore. Some golf courses sell flags in their souvenir shops so that collectors may be appeased. The flags in the souvenir shops are often the generic ones that haven’t seen any action yet. As such, their value in the hierarchy of flags is quite low. The most valued flags are the ones used in tournaments or the ones held by a golf star.
Collectors are not always satisfied with the ones they find in these souvenir shops. Some golf flags are more valuable than others simply because they were used in certain tournaments. Collectors find these by browsing through magazines that tell them which courses make it to the top set. Sometimes, they use other polls found in other mediums. Eventually, the flags will make it to auctions that collectors can attend in order to get the flags that they want. Since there are a lot of people who go after these items, their value sometimes becomes extravagant.
