The Bits and Pieces That Make Up The United States

November 5, 2009

The United States of America doesn’t have just one history lesson to teach. In fact, they are made up of a whole library of stories that each individual state has. These stories are recorded not only in books and scraps of paper and doodles in class, but also in the individual flags of each state.

State flags represent more than the simple pieces of colored cloth hoisted on a flagpole. They tell so many stories about the land they were built on, the people that pay homage to them, and the culture that they represent. They are, in fact, some of the most efficient ways of teaching history without the boring lectures. All you have to do is to understand the signs, symbols, colors, and patterns that the flag has. In order to get this done, you do have to check a few books or a few websites that say something about the flag. Or, you could go to class.

These flags are usually hoisted in areas that attribute some amount of dignity and honor to it. In most cases, these areas are in front of government buildings and such. This is because people often attach themselves very strongly to their flags. After all, state flags represent not just the history of the state but also the culture and the principles that the state is founded on. This means that these flags already represent a great deal about the collective behavior of the people. It also represents some political ideologies.
